Columbus Cup - News Flash

The MUSA O48 team was the last of 4 teams to complete the Quarter Final match-up.  The results are finally in and MUSA O48 were unable to overcome the Scorpions after regulation ended 1-1 on a great goal by Rich Shakter only to give up a goal in the second half. Penalties ensued and MUSA scored the first goal only to be turned back on the next 3 and with the Scorpions netting 3, the game was sealed.  The team now look to next years tournament to take home a trophy.

The team was put together by Maccabiah 05/09 member Eric Brief who continues to make a great showing with his teams at these events.  Bolstered by other Maccabiah and Pan Am games veterans along with others, the team has represented the Maccabi USA family with great pride and carries on the tradition for all of us.

Special shout out to other Maccabiah team members who represented the Geezer FC team from New York/New Jersey area as well as the South Bay All Stars from Los Angeles.

Our next official event will be the Las Vegas King Cup where the 2015 Pan Am teams will participate on their road to Chile.

See you all in January

Columbus Cup Update - Sunday Oct. 12, 2014

On a beautiful day in Casa Grande, the MUSA 48 took to the field at 11:00am needing a win or a tie to move on to the knockout round and extend their tournament life for another day.

In a very close match, 1 set play separated the teams at full time as MUSA 48 went down 1-0 from a corner kick in the 47th minute, that eluded the goalkeeper as well as the player at the far post.  A rarely seen "Olympic Goal" or "Olimipico" get's it's name from a 1924 friendly between then Olympic Champion Argentina and Uruguay when Argentine striker Cesareo Onzari scored from a corner.  see link:  http://americansoccernow.com/soccerpedia/olympic-goal

The result means that MUSA48 take second in group A and will now face the Winners of Group B (Scorpions) in a match to be contested tonight at 7:00 MST at the Casa Grande facility.

Keep your email on as we update the scores later today.  Wishing the team good luck as they seek yet another trophy.
