USA vs GB (2-2) PK (2-3)

The battle for 5th place at Maccabiah 2017 was everything it was thought to be. A GB team who had been beaten the last 3 times by the US was out for revenge.

The first half GB netted twice on two US errors.

In the second half the US pushed forward and a goal by Brett Epstein got the team back in it and a last gasp effort resulted in a penalty kick which Stefan Greenberg slotted home to tie the game.

In the penalty shootout, GB netted 3 with 2 saves by Lee Popper to keep the US in the game. Unfortunately, the US could only connect on 2 missing each of the other three chances. Goals by Larry Block and Stephan Felgoise finished the US scoring.

7/13/17 - 20th World Maccabiah Games Daily Update

7/13/17: 20th World Maccabiah Games Update
Reflection from Seth Rojhani, Paralympic Basketball Team Member
It's been good to be in a country that has been able to provide access for us pretty much everywhere.

This is very different than America because not everything is accessible whereas here everything is, especially the bathrooms have handicapped stalls, that has been incredible. There are curb cuts and ramps in every building.

During our Lev l'Lev trip, we had the opportunity to visit the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled. What an incredible place. Seeing the huge complex, that caters to athletes in rugby, basketball, tennis, table tennis, swimming, etc, the center stood out to me as being extremely inclusive, how it involves all types of disabled athletes.

USA 1 - 0 Chile

USA scored the first goal in the run of play in this Maccabiah. A spectacular cross from the right wing by Matt Sills found the head of Stephan "Steven" Feldgoise in a coast to coast connection (California-New York). Co-Captains Lee Popper and Brett Epstein anchored the defense with Popper making a vital save in the second half tipping the ball over the bar at full stretch.

Chile ended the game with 10 men due to a straight red card late in the second half.

With the win, the US will play the winner of the GB - Australia game taking place now at the same venue.

Friday 11:00am, the winners will clash in a match for 5th place.

7/12/17 - 20th World Maccabiah Games Daily Update

7/12/17: 20th World Maccabiah Games Update
(Open Fencer showing Team USA pride)
Message from Tal Brody, Goodwill Ambassador to Israel
The 20th World Maccabiah Games are the first time that I have had the opportunity to attend competitions other than basketball. Prior to these Games, my only real experience at the Maccabiah Games was with basketball and now I've been to swimming competitions, water polo games, water polo matches, gymnastics, and more. I am getting the true Maccabiah experience. Some of these sports I have only seen on TV in the Olympics, and what a sight it is to see them in person! On Sunday, I will be attending all the final basketball Games in Jerusalem, which I am very excited for. It has been a very interesting Maccabiah experience for me, each year I've seen the skill level of American athletes increase tremendously.
